Cookie Policy

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device when you visit. They help the site remember information about your visit, such as which pages you looked at and how long you spent on each one. Cookies do not contain your name or any personal details that identify you.
Cookies we use
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to see which recipes and pages people use, so we can improve recipes and navigation.
Outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs by default to count visits and pages viewed. It sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_<ID>) kept up to 2 years in your browser. Google processes this data for us as a service provider; we do not sell it or use it for targeted ads. You can turn it off anytime with Decline or Privacy choices, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics only runs after you click Accept.
If we can't tell which country you are in, analytics also waits until you click Accept. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off for our Google Analytics property.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Tells one visitor's browser apart from another | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_<ID> (on this site, _ga_VHT4FHWDHQ) | Keeps session state for our Google Analytics property | Up to 2 years |
Google Analytics records pages visited, time on site, device type and general country. It does not collect your name or email address. Choosing Decline deletes the _ga and _ga_<ID> cookies and stops further analytics on this site.
Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
No ads run on this site yet. We may show ads from Google AdSense in the future.
Our pages do not load Google's AdSense code while no ads run, so AdSense sets no cookies here today.
Before any ads go live, we will update this policy and our Privacy Policy. If we add ads, they will work like this:
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, or if we can't tell which country you are in: Google's certified consent tool will ask for your choice first, and ads will not load until you make it.
- Everywhere else: ads will still load only after you click Accept. Personalized ads can be a sale or share under California law, and you will be able to opt out on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information section. We will treat a Global Privacy Control signal as that opt-out.
You can manage Google's ad cookies at any time in Google's ad settings.
Amazon Associates
Product links to Amazon are affiliate links. Amazon may set cookies when you follow a link so it can attribute a purchase. Those cookies are described in Amazon’s privacy notice.
Microsoft Clarity, OneSignal and MailerLite
These load only after you click Accept. Microsoft Clarity sets cookies to record how the site is used. OneSignal sets cookies or similar storage if you subscribe to browser notifications. MailerLite shows the email signup pop-up, and if you send an email address, MailerLite stores it to send the messages you asked for. Choosing Decline also deletes Clarity's _clck and _clsk cookies.
Why we use cookies
- Analytics: To understand which recipes are popular, how visitors navigate the site, and where we can improve.
- Performance: To identify slow pages or broken links so we can fix them quickly.
- Advertising: No ads run yet. If we add Google ads in the future to fund the site and keep recipes free, advertising cookies would let Google show and measure ads and, where allowed and you agree, personalize them.
How to opt out
You have several ways to control or remove cookies:
1. Browser settings
All major browsers let you block or delete cookies. The steps vary by browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
Note: blocking all cookies may affect how the site works.
2. Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on
Install the free Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to stop Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits across all websites, not just ours.
3. Google Ad Settings
Visit Google Ad Settings to turn off personalised advertising from Google across the web.
4. Our cookie banner and Privacy choices
When you first visit, a cookie banner explains your choices. What runs before you click depends on where you are:
- Outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland: Google Analytics runs by default. Click Decline to turn it off.
- In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, or if we can't tell your country: analytics only runs after you click Accept.
- If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, or you opted out of sale or share on our Privacy Policy: Google Analytics does not run unless you click Accept.
- On our articles about celiac disease and other health conditions: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity run only after you click Accept, wherever you are.
Wherever you are, these load only after you click Accept:
- Microsoft Clarity
- OneSignal notifications
- MailerLite email pop-ups
Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage and respected on future visits. Use Privacy choices / Manage consent in the footer to reopen the banner and change or withdraw your choice. Where Google's certified consent tool is active, that control opens Google's tool instead.
You can change or withdraw your choices at any time with Privacy choices in the footer. Analytics can be turned off there. Ad choices reopens our cookie banner, or Google's consent tool where it is active.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services (Google) rather than directly by us. We do not control those third-party cookies. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details on how they use data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent version.
